Exchange students share insight into study at Teesside University London
Students who completed an exchange programme with Teesside University London have shared positive experiences of studying in one of the world’s most global cities.
Briac Delamaire, from France, and Faris Ismail Hussein, from Germany, both completed a semester of study on the BA Business Management at Teesside University London.
They each praised the flexibility of the programme, the supportive staff and the opportunity to experience to meet people from different backgrounds.
Briac, a student at Rennes School of Business in France said: “One of the things that attracted me most to this exchange programme was the overall organisation of the courses, divided into just two modules per week. I found this structure particularly appealing as it allows for a well-balanced lifestyle between studies, work, and leisure. This flexibility gave me the feeling that I could manage my time independently and efficiently, which is a real advantage when living abroad.”
Faris, who is a student at Hochschule Bielefeld, University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Germany, said: “I had wanted to do a semester abroad for quite some time to grow both personally and academically. Improving my language skills was also a key goal for me, and I wanted to study in an English-speaking country.
“London appealed to me as I enjoy living in large cities and they offer countless opportunities for personal development alongside academic life, to build new connections, meet people from all over the world, and gain completely new perspectives. Teesside University London stood out as very modern, future-oriented, and well-organised. The existing partnership with my home university made the decision even easier.”
Briac added: “My experience at the University has been extremely positive. The modules were both engaging and academically stimulating. The lecturers were very supportive, which really helped me integrate. In addition, the facilities are modern, comfortable and well suited to student needs, creating an enjoyable and motivating working environment.”
Faris also praised the lecturers, along with the modern and accessible campus, adding: “The lecturers are supportive, giving students a great deal of independence to create a motivating learning environment. The campus is modern, lively, and very accessible.
“Living and studying in London has been both exciting and enriching. Freshers’ Week played a huge role in helping me find my way around quickly. By the time lectures and seminars started, I already knew where everything was and felt comfortable and welcomed from day one. What I love most about London is its multicultural environment. You meet people from so many different backgrounds every day, and that is truly inspiring.” They both also also credit the exchange programme in helping to increase their independence and confidence.
Briac said: “I had to adapt to a new environment and step outside my comfort zone, which helped me to become more independent. I also developed my sense of curiosity, pushing me to explore the city, create connections and meet many new people."
Faris added: “I have become more independent, more confident, and better at adapting to new situations. I have also improved my language skills and discovered new professional perspectives; as well gaining a broader view of my studies and my future. It has shown me how valuable international experiences truly are.”
Both also say they would encourage any other students considering an exchange programme.
Briac said: “My advice would be not to hesitate. Stay open minded, curious, and don’t be afraid of the unknown. It is a unique opportunity to experience a new culture, meet people from all over the world, and develop valuable skills for the future.”
Faris added: “A semester abroad offers possibilities you simply would not have at home. You benefit from great support from your home university, your lecturers, and the partner institution. Embrace the adventure.”
