Event promoting green careers hosted by Teesside University London

Teesside University London recently hosted Hackney Green Futures, an event aimed at those interested in building a career in sustainability.

The free event, designed to help young people explore green careers, meet employers and strengthen their professional profile, brought together around 40 employers in sustainable construction, clean energy, eco-transport and environmental technology.

Along with career talks, live demos and information stalls to encourage young people across to pursue careers in green sectors, attendees were connected directly with employers, training and apprenticeship providers and were given the opportunity for free professional headshots.

Around 350 people attended across event, including the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Hackney, as well as the MP of Hackney, Dame Meg Hillier.

Gallal Muflahi, Senior Employer Engagement Officer at Hackney Council, said: “Hackney Green Futures was about opening people’s eyes to the range of opportunities that exist within the green economy and showing that green careers go far beyond the roles people might traditionally think of.

“It was fantastic to see around 350 people come through the doors, speaking directly with employers, taking part in workshops and discovering new opportunities and career pathways.”

Gallal added: “We couldn’t have delivered an event of this scale without the support of our partners, and Teesside University London played a huge part in making the day a success.

“The venue provided a fantastic setting for bringing residents, employers and partners together, and we’re really grateful to the whole team for their support.”
