Bob Beagrie will read from his latest book, The Last Almanac, on Wednesday March 29, 6-7pm in room L2.02 on the second floor of the Library.
Spanning twenty years, the poems in The Last Almanac are compressed into a single year’s calendar, charting subtle seasonal shifts, phases of the moon, ancient holy days, moments of the seemingly mundane, and the peaks and troughs of living, growing, loving, gathering-in and letting-go.
Drawing upon the pastoral and post-pastoral traditions this collection is, among many things, an evocation of the memory-scapes of both urban and rural settings and an exploration of the psycho-emotional impact of an ever-changing environment through a sustained instinct toward ‘soul-making’.
These poems, for all their formal artistry, experimentation and contemporaneity, have their roots firmly planted in a shamanic sensibility.
