Assessment Regulations

The University Academic Board approves the Assessment Regulations for Taught and Research awards. The Assessment Regulations undergo a regular editorial process to ensure they are consistent and accurate.

From time to time, the University undertakes a full review of its regulations to reflect changing institutional and national agendas. Specific details of the most recent amendments to the assessment regulations can be obtained from the Student Learning & Academic Registry [SLAR] on request, via APR@tees.ac.uk.



Undergraduate Awards

The latest versions of the regulations for Foundation Degrees, Undergraduate Degrees and Integrated Masters Degrees, which are effective from 27 September 2021, are detailed below:


Taught Postgraduate Awards at Level 7

The latest versions of the regulations Taught Masters Awards, including Postgraduate Certificate and Postgraduate Diploma Awards which are effective from 27 September 2021, are detailed below:


Professional Doctorate Awards

The latest version of the regulations for Professional Doctorate Awards, which will be effective from 27 September 2021, are detailed below. A number of minor amendments have been made to the regulations from 2021-22 relating to clarification of Maximum Period of Registration, Progression where courses include Level 7 modules, clarification of pass/fail basis of stages of award:

Higher National Awards

The latest version of the regulations for Higher National Awards, which will be effective from 27 September 2021, are detailed below:


Covid-19 Pandemic

As a result of the impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic, the Vice-Chancellor invoked the following regulations:
  • Operation of Assessment Processes in Exceptional Circumstances (Section 3.21 for all Assessment Regulations except the Assessment Regulations for Professional Doctorate Awards where it is Section 3.23) which is supplemented by Academic Regulations for the Exceptional Management of Taught Awards
  • No Detriment Approach 2019-20 for Academic Year 2019-20 and No Detriment Approach for 2020-21 for Academic Year 2020-21.

These Regulations have been rescinded from the 2021-22 Academic Year.



Variance to Assessment Regulations

Some courses and/or modules have approved Variance from specific aspects of the assessment regulations, normally due to Professional, Statutory and Regulatory Body (PSRB) requirements.If you are an enrolled student and are unsure as to which set of regulations apply to you, or whether your course/module has any Variance, please contact the relevant Course Leader for further information.
