Best thing about teaching at Teesside?

My students. You come from such a wide range of backgrounds with different experiences. It makes teaching you and sharing my passion for education a pleasure.

How does your experience in education shape your teaching?

I feel that experiences in all aspects of my life have shaped my teaching and my approach. My experiences have shown me the importance of treating everyone as individuals with their own needs. Therefore, understanding the needs of each student is vital.

How do your students benefit from your research?

I have a clear understanding of research methodology – both qualitative and quantitative. I can support you effectively in all aspects of research projects and dissertations.

What can students expect from one of your classes?

You should expect to contribute to my sessions by sharing your views and experiences. I like you to challenge theory and engage with critical debate and consider how theory applies to the real-world while on placement in schools.

Most memorable moment of your career?

Being able to engage in aspects of education as I am working towards a PhD in Education. Also, securing a position as a senior lecturer at Teesside University.

Best piece of advice for your students?

Read lots, manage your time well and ask for support if you need it – we are here to help. Perhaps most importantly, enjoy learning and have fun.
