Why Teesside?

I decided to go to university because I wanted to expand my knowledge in engineering. I chose Teesside as it ranked in the top 40 universities for my subject.

Why mechanical engineering?

I have always been really passionate about mechanical engineering. From designing internal combustion engines to the manufacturing of nano-sized products, you are only limited by your imagination in mechanical engineering which I love. Teesside always push you to use your imagination when solving problems which makes studying here really great.

Best thing about your course?

The course is varied which makes it interesting and fun. Being surrounded by people who share the same interests and passions as myself is also very motivating. And the engineering equipment is of the highest standard which replicates industry.

Favourite module?
I love the Computer Aided Design module as well as the group projects you complete. All the modules give you valuable experience you can use in industry and provide detailed insight into a range of areas.

How are the facilities?

Teesside has invested a lot into their campus to give students the best experience possible. I enjoy using the library as the environment is relaxing and you have a number of floors to choose from.

The gym is great as there is so much available from cardio and weights, to a running track and fitness studios.

The Student Life building is great for relaxing in-between lessons, and there is also a lot of student support available.

Tell us about your work experience

I was able to go on placement as a manufacturing support engineer at Cummins in Darlington. Cummins is a global leader in diesel engine manufacturing. It was a perfect opportunity for me to gain experience in an area that I am both passionate in and looking to pursue a career in. I was able to support the lead engineers and learn a great deal from them that helped me with my own studies and projects. I was also able to gain a part-time job upon completion of my work experience.

What skills have you gained?

I have gained many skills that will help me going forward in my career. Working with different people from a range of backgrounds has allowed me to open my mind to new ideas and ways of thinking. I have developed essential skills such as teamwork, planning, and organisational skills.

Would you recommend Teesside?

I would highly recommend Teesside to those looking for a course that will prepare you fully for the working world. My experience has been amazing, and I have been supported all the way by the lecturers and staff members.
