After raising her family, Tracy chose to pursue her passion for history through our online degree, inspired by her son’s own studies and her ambition to become an archivist. She values the course’s flexibility, engaging modules and strong tutor support, which allow her to balance study with everyday life.

Why did you choose to study online with Teesside?

After leaving school and getting my A levels, I started working, got married and had my three amazing sons. As they got older, I felt it was time to do something for myself. My eldest son is studying history at university and really enjoys it, which inspired me to look at doing a degree. As I didn’t want to travel far to attend university, I researched online learning. I chose Teesside as the course sounded interesting and varied, and the University had good reviews.

Why history?

I have always been passionate about history and would like to be an archivist. When researching how I can get into this career, a degree looked like the best pathway for me.

Favourite thing about the course?

The flexibility – it fits around my everyday life. I have enjoyed all the modules, particularly the ones about empires and ancient Greece.

Tell us about the support from your tutors

It’s been amazing. My tutor arranges regular meetings with me, and there is always an option for further support if I need it. He is very passionate about his job, which shows in interactions on seminar discussion boards and when we have live workshops.

Would you recommend Teesside University Online Learning?

Definitely. There are so many online tools provided to support us, and everyone at the University has been so helpful and patient. I have been particularly impressed with the online library.

Any advice for future students?

Go for it – I am honestly so pleased with the course structure, content and all the support I’ve been given. Although you do not meet fellow students in person, you interact with them often online.
