Student applying

Step-by-step guide to applying through Clearing

See if Clearing is right for you

You may be eligible if:

  • you don’t currently hold any university offers
  • you’ve declined your firm place
  • you didn’t meet the entry requirements for your original choices
  • you’ve applied to university after 30 June.

Start searching for courses

  • Use the UCAS website to explore courses with available places.
  • Check university websites directly, many list Clearing places online and offer dedicated Clearing support lines.
  • If you're not sure where to begin, speak to us directly for advice on what’s available.

Find your course

Make your application

  • Once you’ve spoken to us and received a verbal offer, you’ll need to add your Clearing choice in UCAS Hub. You can only add one Clearing choice at a time.
  • Find your Clearing number, which is located on the welcome and choices pages of your UCAS Hub - we need this to access your application.
  • If you’re applying for the first time, you’ll need to create a UCAS account, complete your details, including your education details and qualification results, personal statement and reference, and submit your application.

Be ready to act

  • Places can fill up quickly in Clearing, so it’s important to respond promptly once you receive an offer.
  • If your first choice isn’t confirmed, you can continue searching and add another Clearing choice.
