You discover what it is like to be a digital forensic practitioner and the role they play in criminal investigations where digital devices have been involved. You explore the concept of digital evidence: what it is, where it can come from, and how to analyse it.

You learn through a combination of pre-recorded materials and exercises to complete at your own pace, with a weekly one-hour live session to discuss key concepts and debate core syllabus topics. Tutor support is available throughout the specified weekly times.

What you study

Topics covered:

- what is digital forensics?
- best practices and processes
- evidence handling
- digital investigatory concepts including deleted file recovery, file identification and artefact analysis
- presentation of evidence
- the law.

How you are assessed

All learning outcomes will be assessed in a single assignment requiring students to undertake a mock investigation of a supplied piece of evidence and report their case findings.

 

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

As this is an online course you need access to a computer and be comfortable learning through an online platform. A strong and stable internet connection is required, and a webcam and microphone to participate in any interactive elements of the course

International applicants must have an IELTS overall score of 5.5 or higher.
