Computer Sciences: Programming (Online)

If you have little or no experience of any programming, you are introduced to the core structures needed for programming. You develop your programming skills using tools that are easily available, easy to use, and familiar to anyone who has used a computer.

Course overview

You learn through weekly pre-recorded content and tasks, that can be worked through at your own pace. You also take part in live sessions throughout the course.

This course is delivered online. Please check the entry requirements tab before making your application to ensure you meet the entry criteria and have all the minimum equipment necessary to take part.

Group A - Starts Monday 10 June, Mondays and Wednesdays for four weeks, 6.00pm-9.00pm

What you study

- introduce the language and jargon used by programmers
- sequence and selection
- conditional and looping constructs
- using arithmetic and relational operators
- strings
- functions: reasons for, parameters, arguments and return values
- debugging tips and tools
- introduce common frameworks/third party libraries.

How you are assessed

You submit a portfolio of development work demonstrating a range of programming skills.

Minimum hardware and software requirements
- PC with 1.6Ghz processor and 2GB RAM
- Python 3.8.x.

As this is an online course you need access to a computer and be comfortable learning through an online platform. A strong and stable internet connection is required, and a webcam and microphone to participate in any interactive elements of the course.

International applicants must have an IELTS overall score of 5.5 or higher.
