Introduction to Automated BIM Construction Planning
Gain a practical introduction to how Building Information Modelling (BIM) can be used to improve construction planning, co-ordination and project delivery. This module explores how digital tools and workflows support consistent information management, reduce clashes and optimise sequencing across construction projects. Through hands-on activities using industry-standard tools such as Revit and Navisworks, you develop an understanding of BIM execution planning, 4D simulation, clash detection and digital coordination. By the end of the module, you are able to apply BIM-based planning techniques to improve project efficiency, enhance collaboration and support modern digital construction practices.

AI and Machine Learning for the Built Environment
Explore how artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) can support smarter asset management and better decision-making across the built environment. This practical module introduces the key concepts behind AI-enabled asset management and demonstrates how data can be structured to support predictive insights, maintenance planning and portfolio optimisation. Through hands-on exercises, you learn how to create and manage digital asset registers, analyse asset information and understand how AI technologies can be used to improve operational and strategic decision-making.

Introduction to Digital Twins: From Models to Virtual Reality
Gain an introduction to digital twins and discover how organisations are using digital technologies to monitor, manage and optimise physical assets. You explore the differences between digital models, digital shadows and fully connected digital twins, while developing an understanding of the data, systems and technologies that make them possible. The module also introduces immersive technologies, including virtual reality, and demonstrates how digital twins can improve visualisation, planning, stakeholder engagement and long-term asset management.

Generation of a Company Digital 360° Photogrammetry Environment
Learn how to create immersive digital environments that bring physical assets to life. This hands-on module introduces 360° imagery capture, photogrammetry techniques and the creation of interactive virtual environments enhanced with metadata, tagging and digital information layers. You explore how these technologies can support asset management, training, engagement and digital documentation, while developing practical skills that can be applied across a range of organisational settings.

REVIT: Introduction to BIM Modelling
Build a strong foundation in BIM modelling with this practical introduction to REVIT and OpenBIM principles. Through guided exercises, you learn how to create accurate digital models, develop structured asset information and apply industry-standard modelling techniques. The module covers key concepts including families, parameters, model organisation and interoperability, helping you create high-quality BIM models that support effective asset management and improved information consistency throughout the asset lifecycle.

How you learn

The programme is delivered through a combination of on-campus workshops and dedicated one-to-one mentoring sessions. Interactive and highly practical, the sessions encourage discussion, reflection and real-world application, providing opportunities to learn from both experienced facilitators and fellow participants.

How you are assessed

With no formal assessments, this unaccredited course allows you to focus on developing practical skills without the pressure of exams, encouraging the application of knowledge directly in the workplace. You will however receive a certificate of completion and attendance as a result.

You are expected to:

  • be a Tees Valley resident aged 19 and over, and meet the relevant legal entitlement requirements
  • have a clear development pathway within your employment, such as progression into a new or more senior role, increased responsibilities, salary progression, or developing skills to meet an identified business need
  • commit to engaging with the programme and completing all required documentation and reporting.
