Introduction to Journalism

You are introduced to the core journalistic skills of news gathering and reporting in the digital landscape.

Course overview

It examines the technical aspects of generating video images and audio as well as editing and uploading content to the web using digital devices including mobiles. Producing audio and video for the web and scriptwriting for audio and video is a core feature of the module which will examine the latest industry practices on digital storytelling.

Course details

What you study

- digital storytelling using audio, video and images
- professional practice of shooting video on mobile devices, recording audio and the basic principles of photography
- principles of editing audio, video and images
- optimise online content so it is shareable and searchable.

How you are assessed

You are assessed through the production of a portfolio, containing a series of published news articles on the University’s digital media platform, TU-Xtra. Your portfolio demonstrates your journalistic skills across audio, video and written publications.

 

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

Ensure your laptop or PC can run Adobe Creative Suite.

You require a digital tablet or smartphone to capture video, audio and images.

International applicants must have an IELTS overall score of 5.5 or higher.
