Course overview

Explore a specific area of professional practice or study in depth, analysing and evaluating relevant theory and research linked to professional practice. Engage in independent and reflective approaches to learning with support from your tutor.

Study this course as a stand-alone module or as an optional module for the BSc Integrated Care Studies.

You are responsible for your own learning along with guidance from your tutor. A learning contract is negotiated between you and your supervising tutor, providing a framework for learning and teaching strategies. A maximum of two hours of individual tutoring takes place at agreed times during the term with your supervising tutor.

How you learn

Emphasis is on independent learning. You attend three seminars around theories relevant to the structure of the assessments, particularly the process of negotiating a learning contract and theories of adult learning. You are allocated an academic tutor to support you in your chosen topic and provide individual tutorial contact time as agreed in your learning contract.

How you are assessed

The form of assessment is negotiated within your learning contract and includes a reflective paper of 3,000 words or a 30-minute video critique analysing and exploring your chosen topic.

You should be working in the field of health and social care and undertaking postgraduate study.
