The basic assumption of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is that people are doing their best but need help developing the skills to appropriately function in life and society.
Working in DBT lets you focus on supporting people to change unhelpful patterns of behaviour by increasing their emotional and cognitive regulation.
In this module you explore the skills and techniques for working with these patients and those with personality disorders.
This award is delivered at the Centre for Professional and Executive Development, Darlington campus.
You study the model of dialectical behavior therapy, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, mindfulness and interpersonal effectiveness, among other relevant issues.
You learn through workshops, role-play activities, video demonstrations and self-directed learning. Your learning is enhanced through the virtual learning environment via virtual discussions and blogs.
You are assessed using video recorded role play and client-based scenarios to develop a portfolio of competencies.
You must have registration with a recognised professional body within the health and social care fields.
On completion of this award you will be familiar with the knowledge and skills required to work, confidently, with individuals with personality impairment and other conditions.
