Daisy Best, Rachel Morris and David Dixon will be talking about the Opening Doors for Care Leavers Hackathon which took place in November and sharing the ideas being taken forward as a result of the event.
In the UK, we have almost 100,000 children in care at any one time; 40% of care leavers aged 19-22 are not in education, employment or training, and there is a much higher tendency for this group of people to commit crime, be homeless and self-harm.
The aim of the Hackathon was to help address some of the challenges that young people face when they leave our care system. A diverse group of people – care leavers, foster carers, students business leaders and anyone working in a profession associated with care leavers worked together to consider solutions and help increase engagement in education, training and employment.
Lunch is provided.
