About this scholarship

You may be eligible for £6,000 or £8,000 if you are starting an eligible undergraduate engineering degree at Teesside University in autumn 2026. This scholarship is open to applicants who identify as women. Preference is given to applicants living in the TS postcode area.

This scholarship supports students who may face financial barriers to accessing higher education. Applications are assessed based on the financial circumstances outlined in your personal statement, together with other relevant information available to the University.

Eligibility

To apply you must:

• have selected Teesside University as your firm choice through UCAS for one of the following courses:
  BEng Aerospace Engineering
  MEng Aerospace Engineering
  BEng Chemical Engineering
  MEng Chemical Engineering
  BEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  BEng Energy Engineering
  BEng Instrumentation and Control Engineering
  BEng Mechanical Engineering
  MEng Mechanical Engineering
• be a UK home-fee-paying student
• be applying for the first year of an eligible three-year degree or four-year integrated master's degree. Foundation year entry routes are not eligible
• outline your financial circumstances and how the scholarship funds will enable your studies
• this scholarship is open to applicants who identify as women.

Awards are made at the discretion of the Scholarships Panel, who may consider your financial background, prior academic performance, as well as other information provided through your application and at any subsequent interview.

The Steph McGovern Women in Engineering Scholarship, powered by Enginuity, has been established through a partnership between Enginuity, Steph McGovern and Teesside University to support more women into engineering education and careers.

While engineering offers exciting opportunities across a wide range of industries, women remain underrepresented in many areas of the profession. This scholarship aims to encourage and enable more women to study engineering-related degrees at Teesside University, helping to build a stronger, more diverse talent pipeline for the Tees Valley and beyond.

The Tees Valley is home to a thriving industrial economy, with significant investment creating growing demand for engineering skills. By supporting the next generation of female engineers, the scholarship aims to help ensure local industries have access to the talent, innovation and expertise they need for the future.

Alongside financial support, scholars have opportunities to engage with Steph McGovern, Enginuity and industry partners throughout their studies. Opportunities may include:
