Celebrate summer with Culture on Campus

25 June 2009

Music and fashion are the themes of the final events rounding off the Culture on Campus summer programme which has entertained visitors and staff at the University.

The wide range of free events continues with lunchtime concert Songs on a Summer’s Day, which can be enjoyed from 1.00pm to 2.00pm, on Wednesday 1 July, in the main hall of the Brittan Building. Soprano Emily Smith and tenor David Pisaro will perform a recital of songs, arias and duets from some of their best loved operas, musicals and song collections, accompanied by Alison Gill.

The music will continue later the same evening in the Brittan Building Main Hall from 7.00pm to 9.00pm, when Emily and David will lead the first performance by the rock and gospel choir, which meets regularly as part of Culture on Campus. The choir will be joined by members of the University Singers, led by Rebecca Pedlow, of Platform. This evening event is ticket only.

The lunchtime events will continue with fashion designer Rachel Powell who will present Fashion Network North East, promoting new fashion designers, from 1.00pm to 2.00pm on Wednesday 8 July in the Brittan Building Main Hall. As with all afternoon Culture on Campus events, admission is free and there is no need to book.

Music is the theme an event from 1.00pm to 2.00pm on Wednesday 15 July when singer Claire Arbon and Noel Dennis, Principal Lecturer in Marketing and musician with the Noel Dennis jazz quartet, will host a Summer Jazz Festival, also in the Brittan Building Main Hall.
