Institute of Digital Innovation opens its doors

01 September 2009

A digital entrepreneur and the creative director from one of the country’s best names in animation will help to highlight the wealth of activities at the Institute of Digital Innovation.

An Open Day will be held at the Institute of Digital Innovation, based in the University’s Phoenix Building, from 3.00pm to 7.00pm on Thursday 10 September.

Key speakers will be Lindsey Fallow, a former presenter of BBC’s Tomorrow’s World and Dan Efergen, Creative Director of Online at Aardman Animations. Online is the newest department within Aardman Animations, creators of the hugely successful Wallace and Gromit.

The Institute of Digital Innovation is part of the DigitalCity initiative which aims to create a vibrant, successful and self-sustaining cluster of Digital companies in the Tees Valley.

DigitalCity also involves DigitalCity Business, based in the newly created Boho Zone close to Middlesbrough’s town centre.

Along with guest speakers, the Open Day will also include a range of interactive displays of work by DigitalCity Fellows and the companies created through the IDI, along with tours of the building, including the sound studio housed in the Phoenix Building.

In the last three months alone 14 companies have been created through the Institute of Digital Innovation Fellowship scheme. This scheme enables digital media or technology specialists from the region to make their ideas a business reality through the use of world class facilities, mentoring support and funding.
