26 January 2012

Proud graduates who achieved Teesside University qualifications at Darlington College are celebrating their academic success.

Around 90 graduates and their guests will gather at Darlington College on Saturday 4 February to celebrate their success in a joint Teesside University and Darlington College graduation ceremony.

The graduates achieved their academic awards at the University’s Centre within Darlington College. Their diverse awards include Foundation Degrees in Journalism, Higher National Certificates in Mechanical Engineering and BA (Hons) degrees in Education Studies. In addition, some graduates will be awarded Darlington College Higher Level professional qualifications.

It will be the fifth annual graduation to take place in the town and the first since Teesside University opened its £13m campus in Darlington.

Attending the ceremony will be Teesside University’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Graham Henderson CBE, Darlington College’s Principal Tim Grant, Darlington’s Mayor Councillor Lee Vasey, Alastair MacColl, Deputy Chairman of the University’s Board of Governors and senior members of the University, Darlington College and Darlington Council.

Teesside University’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Graham Henderson said: 'I am delighted that we will be holding our fifth academic awards ceremony in Darlington, with this year’s ceremony being particularly special as it is the first since we opened our new Darlington campus.

'I am very much looking forward to celebrating the success of our graduates and looking ahead to the future, with our new Darlington campus enabling us to provide more higher education opportunities for learning in Darlington in the years ahead.'

Tim Grant, Principal of Darlington College, says it is a proud moment in the history of Darlington College. He said: 'This will be a very special occasion for our students and staff who have all worked so hard to achieve their qualifications.

'We are looking forward to hosting the event in the college for the first time, and it’s testament to the special relationship we have with the University and our shared commitment and vision to the town of Darlington, the economy and future generations of students.'
