Over 95% of Teesside University’s international students are satisfied with the support they receive, whereas over 93% have praised the learning technology available.

That is according to the results from the latest International Student Barometer, (ISB), a global survey which gathers feedback from international students across the world in a wide range of areas.

Over 33,000 students worldwide completed this year’s ISB, with the results revealing high levels of satisfaction among overseas students studying at Teesside University.

A total of 780 Teesside University students completed the survey, with a 95.8% satisfaction rate for support. The satisfaction rate for IT support specifically was 97.3% and 93.5% of those who completed the survey were satisfied with the learning technology available at Teesside University.

The Students’ Union also received strong praise, with a 97.2% satisfaction rate, while 98.7% of Teesside University international students said they were satisfied with the counselling services on offer.

A total of 95.5% of international students said they felt safe and secure on campus and the same number said they were satisfied with the University’s buildings. There was also a 93.3% satisfaction rate for accommodation.

Teesside University positions itself as an international university with a global network of partnerships and it attracts high quality students and staff from across the world.

All those who complete the ISB were entered into a prize draw, with 12 Teesside University international students winning shopping vouchers after submitting their feedback and being randomly selected from those who took part.

It is particularly pleasing to see such positive results around areas such as IT support and learning technology, which have been increasingly important during the pandemic

Dr David Bell, Teesside University’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International), congratulated the winners in a special online meeting, where he thanked the students for taking part and explained how important their feedback is to the University and how it is used to further enhance the student experience.

“This has been a very difficult year for everyone around the world and it has been excellent to see how our students have overcome those issues and continued with their studies,” said Dr Bell.

“We are delighted with the feedback from the International Student Barometer. It is particularly pleasing to see such positive results around areas such as IT support and learning technology, which have been increasingly important during the pandemic.”

BA (Hons) Journalism student Archana Chathangoth, from Qatar, said: “I am currently working on my final year project. It has been difficult adjusting, but the academic sessions and online support have been really helpful.”

Alan Lofthouse, President Education and Chair of the Board of Trustees at Teesside University Students’ Union (TUSU), added: “It is an absolute pleasure to see such exceptionally high levels of student satisfaction with both the quality of our student groups and TUSU as a whole. International students can sometimes face extra challenges adapting to a new learning environment and culture so, in a unique year for everyone, it is really gratifying that we appear to have played such an important and positive role in their experience.”
