Celebration of cultural and creative diversity

02 September 2022

A major conference celebrating the impact and role of creativity in the region is taking place in Middlesbrough and Newcastle this month.

The second Creative Fuse Conference will take place on 14 and 15 September and will bring together businesses, creative practitioners, and expertise from the North East’s five universities to support the vibrant, dynamic, and fast-growing Creative, Digital and IT (CDIT) sector.

The conference will be an opportunity to hear from keynote speakers, take part in workshops and explorative discussion, and enjoy performances and exhibitions.

It will explore the impact and role of creativity in the region, economy and society, and how to be more sustainable in a changing world.

This will include creative places, levelling up, co-creation and collaboration, and how creativity can shape identity and innovation.

The first day of the conference will take place at Middlesbrough Town Hall with a drinks reception at MIMA (Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art) where there will be an opportunity to find out more about Teesside University’s School of Arts & Creative Industries, as well as view the art gallery.

The next day the conference will be in Newcastle at Northumbria University’s City Campus East.

We are delighted in the Tees Valley team to be able to bring the second Creative Fuse Conference to Middlesbrough.

Wendy Parvin, Business Development Manager at Creative Fuse Tees Valley

Creative Fuse consists of Creative Fuse Tees Valley (CFTV), a Teesside University-led initiative as part of the DigitalCity cluster, and Creative Fuse North East, funded through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC).

The project aims to help local businesses and freelancers in the sector to grow through academic support, one-to-one consultancy and more.

Wendy Parvin, Business Development Manager at Creative Fuse Tees Valley, said: “We are delighted in the Tees Valley team to be able to bring the second Creative Fuse Conference to Middlesbrough, to celebrate the rich cultural and creative diversity within the Tees Valley area and to highlight the fantastic opportunities Creative Fuse can provide those local creative and cultural freelancers, SMEs and sole traders to innovate and grow.”

Tickets are free and this conference is open to anyone with an interest in the creative and digital industries in the North East of England and beyond, from any sector, working environment or location.
