Would you like to develop your essay writing skills and your searching skills? Why not join our optional modules which have been developed to enhance your skills in essay writing and searching.

Develop your Searching Skills

The School of Health and Life Sciences have developed an optional Searching Skills module in partnership with your librarians. This module is designed to support final/penultimate year undergraduate students and taught postgraduates who need to carry out a systematic literature search for a dissertation/systematic review in health.

The module looks at some key skills which are needed for advanced searches:

- Planning a search

- Searching in key health databases

- Managing search results

- And provides 2 opportunities for feedback on your search.

The module runs over 5 consecutive weeks via MS Teams on Wednesday lunchtime, 13:00 - 14:00, starting on Wednesday 4 November

Develop your Essay Writing Skills

The module covers some key skills when writing essays:

- Finding quality information

- Academic Writing

- Structuring an assignment

- Referencing and in-text citations

The module runs over 4 consecutive weeks via MS Teams on Wednesday afternoons, 13:00 - 14:00, starting on Wednesday 7th Oct 2026.
