Our 12-week higher education short courses give you flexible opportunities to learn and develop sector-specific skills where there's growing employer demand, and the opportunity to progress to further study.
The blended delivery approach of online and face-to-face tuition means you can fit your learning around your other commitments.
These courses are part of the government's approach to fill the skills gap in the economy by funding lifelong learning. They are designed to break down barriers, whoever you are, whatever your circumstances to get on the higher education ladder and into employment. If you're already in work, they can help you to upskill or develop new sector-specific skills to enhance your career prospects.
Short course loans are independent of any previous or current education funding you may have. You can apply for a student loan to study a short course even if you're currently in education or already qualified to degree, masters or PhD level.

The Study Support Bursary (SSB) is a government fund to help support you overcome barriers to study on our HE short courses.
It helps support you with the following:
The bursary must only be spent on the above, and the University may request proof of this.
The payment is up to £1,500 and the amount you receive is based on individual circumstances and is paid on top of your student finance. You don't need to pay the bursary back.
Once you have been offered a place on an HE short course, you can email scedt-shortcourses@tees.ac.uk to request an application form.
We aim to respond to all applicants within two to four weeks.
You are advised to check if this bursary will affect your eligibility for any benefits you receive, such as Universal Credit, before you submit your bursary application.
If your application is unsuccessful and you wish to appeal the decision, please email scedtpa@tees.ac.uk.
