Carers week 6 - 12 June 2022 with drop in

25 May 2022

This year, Carers Week is taking place from the 6th to 12th of June, and the theme is 'Making Carers Visible, Valued and Supported’. A drop in will be running on Tuesday 7th June 9-10am and 1-2pm in The Student Lounge (Student Life Building).

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of and highlight the challenges unpaid carers face. Many people still don't think of themselves as carers and as a result, don't identify as having caring responsibilities and seek out or access much-needed support. A carer can be anyone, of any age, who provides unpaid care and support to a relative, friend or neighbour who is disabled, physically or mentally ill, or affected by substance misuse. If you are a university student and have additional caring responsibilities, it may make it difficult for you to fully immerse yourself in your studies. This could include difficulties attending lectures and submitting assignments and/or missing out on social aspects of university i.e., clubs and societies and events.

To recognise Student Carers, we are holding a ‘drop in’ for you to come along and ask any questions relating to your caring role, including what type of support is available and how you can access this.

The drop in will be running on Tuesday 7th June 9-10am and 1-2pm in The Student Lounge (Student Life Building).
