This module offers an inspiring introduction to the essential interpersonal and communication skills needed to thrive in today’s healthcare environments. Designed for anyone eager to strengthen their ability to connect with individuals, families, and colleagues, it provides practical insight into what truly makes communication effective in health and social care.

Course overview

Throughout the module, students will explore key communication theories, develop core interpersonal skills, and learn the professional behaviours that support safe, compassionate practice. You’ll examine the many factors that shape how we communicate and discover strategies that help build trust, reduce barriers, and enhance the experience of those receiving care.

With a strong focus on person centred practice and therapeutic relationships, this module equips learners with the confidence and techniques to deliver high quality communication that makes a real difference in healthcare settings.

Assessment will be through an individual poster presentation highlighting an aspect of interpersonal or communication skills.

International applicants must have an IELTS overall score of 5.5 or higher.
