What you study
On successful completion of this award, you can:
- plan and manage the acquisition of available research evidence from a range of sources
- critically analyse published research reports and assess their relevance to promoting evidence-based practice and practice effectiveness
- analyse the complementary nature and purposes of various research methodologies to evidence-based practice
- apply numerical and statistical skills to the interpretation of published research findings.
How you learn
You get an overview of a variety of qualitative and quantitative research methods and explore issues surrounding the implementation of evidence-based practice. You develop skills in critical appraisal of individual research studies, and key skills in critical thinking and academic writing.
You undertake IT lab practical work and a range of review activities, this provides you with regular formative feedback so that you are able to assess your progress.
The summative assessment is in two parts:
- Part 1 – you are provided with a small amount of statistical data. You answer a series of structured questions, which allow you to demonstrate you can accurately interpret the data and identify its potential significance.
- Part 2 – requires you to submit a 2,500 word critique of a published research article, selected by you and related to your own area of practice.
