Eve graduated from our marketing course and secured a graduate internship with us.
The subject combines both business and creativity, so it’s the best of both worlds.
I have always loved education, and from an early age I knew I wanted to go to university. I chose Teesside as my older sibling studied here and spoke highly of their experience.
I have studied marketing in some sense since GCSE; it makes sense and comes naturally to me. The subject combines both business and creativity, so it’s the best of both worlds.
The staff had a genuine enthusiasm for the marketing discipline, which shone through in their teaching and made the learning experience really inspiring. The content was also up to date, reflecting the everchanging nature of the subject and the current marketing climate. I worked with live clients on briefs through Teesside Marketing Clinic and the Greggs Challenge, which were so exciting. Knowing I was working to fix a real problem brought my learning to life.
They are great – especially the Library. It has multiple floors with varying sound levels, allowing for group work and silent study. However, it is so much more than a building, offering group and one-to-one tutorials in literature searching, referencing and even research support. The Student Success team provided me with tutoring in statistical analysis when completing my dissertation project – something I believe was crucial in me achieving a first-class grade.
The careers service supports you throughout your studies, helping you compose a CV, and find placements, internships or even part-time and graduate employment. I am particularly thankful for this service, as with their help I secured a graduate marketing internship at Teesside University.
Being from Middlesbrough I am naturally proud of the area. I love that it is progressive and culturally diverse.
Working in Teesside Marketing Clinic in my final year gave me the opportunity to work with numerous local businesses including Teesside Hospice. As part of their brief I performed market research, created mock-ups for the potential redesign of their website, as well as a multi-channel marketing strategy in line with their aims. I put the theory I’d learnt into practice and saw the benefit of my work on real life businesses. This gave me a new sense of confidence in my abilities, making the prospect of a graduate job less daunting.
I also took part in a summer school programme in Prague for four weeks. Not only did I learn about marketing from a different cultural perspective, but I got to live in Czechia for a whole month, experiencing what the city of Prague had to offer.
I would like to continue studying marketing at postgraduate level and have considered applying to continue my studies at the new Teesside University London campus.
Yes – the marketing course here at Teesside is heavily practice-based, so you are regularly given the opportunity to put the theory you have learnt into practice.
Familiarise yourself with the resources and facilities available. They are vast here at Teesside, which makes everything much easier. Most importantly, I would advise fully surrendering to the university experience. The three years have flown by for me, and my only regret is not saying yes to more.
