As an international student it was important that I felt welcomed when I arrived in the country. I chose Teesside because they made it clear that the campus and staff do all they can to make international students feel at home when they first arrive.
There are many opportunities to grow and develop at Teesside, the facilities and support services are excellent which made the decision to study here an easy one.
The approach Teesside takes with the human resource management degree is unique and provides you with the knowledge needed to go into the workplace prepared. The staff are approachable and excellent at what they do as they have many years of industry experience. I enjoyed Business Research Methods as you build the foundations of your dissertation, conduct research, and draft a proposal for your final piece of work. The research initially was a daunting task as I chose a topic that had very little knowledge in, however, my supervisor was really helpful and explained each step in the process and really helped in improving my understanding of which research methods to use in my research. Completing the module helped me develop my overall research skills and my confidence.
During my dissertation I made use of facilities such as the Library and the range of workshops and study spaces available to postgraduate students. The postgraduate study space on the top floor of the Library is a great place to work as it is usually really quiet up there. There is also a café on the bottom floor to get food and a drink when you need a break which is really convenient.
The Students’ Union hosts a lot of events where you can socialise with other students and make new friends. The Monday night quiz is an event me and my friends would go to every week and they also have themed club nights every week as well.
There are clubs and societies you can get involved with which are great ways to make friends and stay active if you join one of the sport clubs. I volunteered in the English café which helped me meet new people and to improve my communication skills and employability.
The Student Futures team is great, they helped me improve my CV and discussed with me how I can make a good first impression in interviews, the advice they give is really beneficial to anyone who is worried or nervous about finding a job after graduating.
