Lecturer’s work to be presented in Greek exhibition

The work of a Teesside University lecturer will be showcased on an international scale, as part of an exhibition held in Greece.

Dr Aikaterini Gegisian, Research Lecturer in Contemporary Fine Art, will see her work included in the ‘Overseas’ exhibition as part of an Arts Festival in Athens organised by the American College of Greece, with the exhibition opening on 4 March.

The exhibition will look into the history of the college, and the Teesside-based lecturer is one of a number of participating artists involved.

Dr Gegisian was born in Thessaloniki, Greece, starting her studies in the UK by obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Film and Television studies at the University of Glasgow.

Her studies took her to the University of Westminster, where she obtained a PhD in Essay Film and served as a Visiting Lecturer in Contemporary Media Practice.

She joined Teesside in September 2015 in the School of Arts & Media and is also a member of IDCA (Institute of Design, Culture and the Arts), which conducts research into historical and contemporary practices of art.

Dr Gegisian is no stranger to taking part in international exhibitions, having been a part of a number of group exhibitions held in New York, Berlin and Paris.

This one takes her back to Greece, as part of an exhibition which celebrates the 140th anniversary of ACG (American College of Greece).

Overseas is a collaborative exhibition, bringing together work from the college produced over more than 100 years.

The exhibition will take place from 4 March until 2 April.
