TeesMade Marketplace was developed by students to showcase the fantastic work being produced within Teesside University’s School of Arts & Creative Industries and by local creators.

The inaugural event, which is being held at Pineapple Black, a Middlesbrough-based contemporary arts space, will feature exhibits, installations and stalls focusing on a wide range of disciplines, including art, illustration and design.

Attendees will have the opportunity to celebrate art, creativity and culture, purchase one-of-a-kind pieces, and connect with creatives from the Tees Valley and beyond.

TeesMade Marketplace was created as part of a project undertaken by postgraduate students from the University’s School of Arts & Creative Industries.

Ibrahim Babatunde, 37, from Nigeria, is helping to organise the event as part of his MA Design studies.

He said: “Being tasked with leading the team organising the physical event for TeesMade Marketplace has been an amazing experience. The opportunity to collaborate with my peers from many diverse, creative backgrounds has brought the best out of all of us.

Our curriculum is designed to give students opportunities to work within industry, and this event is testament to what they can achieve.

“This showcase will truly be a celebration of the work that we have all been able to accomplish as students from the School of Arts & Creative Industries. TeesMade Marketplace promises to be a great launching platform for all who are involved.”

Matt Hulbert, Senior Lecturer in Design, who led the module, added: “The students were passionate about developing an event which would bring something new to the community, and we are thrilled that they have decided to share this platform with local creators.

“Our curriculum is designed to give students opportunities to work within industry, and this event is testament to what they can achieve. We look forward to seeing the work which will be showcased.”

TeesMade Marketplace, which is free for members of the public to attend, is being held on Saturday 13 May, 10.00am – 5.00pm, at Pineapple Black, in Middlesbrough’s Hill Street Shopping Centre.
