Rhiannah chose Teesside for her master's after attending an open day and immediately knowing it was the right place to continue her studies.
If supportive staff, a welcoming environment, and a strong sense of community are priorities for you, I would highly recommend Teesside University.
I wanted to pursue higher education after researching the entry paths into my desired career and realising the importance of an undergraduate degree. I followed this with a postgraduate degree to deepen my knowledge and enhance my understanding in the field. I chose Teesside for my master’s after attending an open day, where I immediately felt welcomed. The staff were incredibly supportive, answering all my questions and providing a comprehensive tour of my course facilities and the wider university. Leaving the open day, I was confident that Teesside was the right place for me to continue my studies.
I have a passion for sport and the science that underpins it. I find the intricacies of this field fascinating and was eager to explore it in greater depth.
The opportunity to bridge theory and practice is invaluable – I really appreciated the balance between practical modules and theoretical content, so I can apply what I’ve learned in real-world scenarios. The supportive teaching staff have been instrumental in enhancing my learning experience – always approachable and willing to answer my questions, further deepening and challenging my understanding. I’ve found the modules rewarding, particularly the coding module, where I had very limited knowledge beforehand, and I can now code an interactive dashboard.
Before starting my course, I felt well-informed on the facilities and support available to me. The campus is equipped with everything I need. I particularly like The Buttery, a building dedicated to postgraduate students with a quiet and focused space to study. The Library is another highlight, with its well-structured layout catering to different study needs, including a silent floor for focused work.
I secured a Graduate Sport Science Internship at Middlesbrough FC, working with the men’s first team. This experience has been invaluable to my development as a practitioner and has solidified my passion for working in this industry.
I also secured a job as a strength and conditioning coach at Leeds United Foundation Emerging Talent Centre alongside my studies.
I have developed practical application of theory, communication skills, collaboration and teamwork, time management and organisation, adaptability and resilience.
To continue developing as a sport science practitioner. I see myself working in professional football as a sport scientist, in the men’s or women’s game, but I am currently trying to gain as much experience as I can.
Yes – the staff go above and beyond, which was important to me as a student joining from a different university to my undergraduate. The course content is aligned with the profession and puts you in a great position to succeed in the field.
Identify what matters most to you in making your university experience as fulfilling as possible. If supportive staff, a welcoming environment, and a strong sense of community are priorities for you, I would highly recommend Teesside University. I would also say to attend an open day, meet the staff, and get a feel of what it is like to be on campus.
