Mauro Jose is studying online with us alongside his offshore career. Seeking to build on his practical experience with deeper academic knowledge, Mauro chose Teesside for its strong reputation in chemical engineering and the flexibility of online study. His course has enabled him to develop real-world, transferable skills, connect theory with practice, and take a more strategic view of process optimisation.
Studying online allowed me to pursue a degree while staying in my job.
I wanted to add to my existing career experience with a deeper academic understanding of my field. I chose to study with Teesside University Online Learning as they have a proven record in chemical engineering, the online mode of study fits around my life, and I can be part of a supportive and connected virtual community.
I wanted to take the next step in my career and move from a technician role to a more specialised operational role.
The connection between academic theory and real-world application; I develop tangible skills I can use at work. I’ve also enjoyed the opportunity to take a holistic view of things from a senior leadership perspective, to optimise processes for turning raw materials into a product.
I work offshore so the traditional university model doesn’t work for me. Studying online allowed me to pursue a degree while staying in my job. Online study allows me to look at materials, recordings and assignments before I start my shift rotation and study in my downtime without being tied to a schedule.
The support from my tutors has been one of the most valuable elements of my experience. They are instrumental in making the virtual environment feel like a connected classroom.
I would wholeheartedly recommend Teesside University Online Learning to any working professional or individual seeking a high-quality, flexible and career-focused education.
My ambition is to build a successful career where I can continuously learn, solve problems and contribute to a safe, efficient and sustainable future in the process industry. My degree is the first step in turning this into reality.
My three top tips would be to treat this like a real commitment, be an active participant, and engage and trust the process and your own resilience. It’s challenging but the skills you gain are invaluable.
