Fundraiser for Sudan
Closing date for registrations: 18 June 12.00am
Sudanese citizen now living in Stockton, Waad Ebrahim is an activist who has led a fundraising educational talk about the current war in Sudan and the colonial history behind it at Rhema House, in Stockton in 2024.
Over 40 people attended the event, describing it as thought provoking, necessary, and important. This initiative helped bring much needed support to Sudan which has been described as a 'hidden war' due to lack of media coverage.
Thanks to this event, Waad raised £350 which was sent to a doctors’ program made up of medical practitioners who have stayed in Sudan to set up temporary emergency clinics in various areas as they are displaced. The funds were used to buy medical supplies for community clinics.
Unfortunately, the living conditions in Sudan continues to deteriorate. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Sudan (OCHA) reports that the population is facing “absolutely devastating” living conditions with over 11 million people displaced and 13.6 million children needing urgent protection and humanitarian aid.
Whilst we often feel powerless in light of the devastation around us, here we have a chance to come together and show concrete solidarity. Book a ticket (£8) and join Waad on the 18th June 2018 at 1pm in the Themis Open Amphitheatre (TBS2) to learn more about the history behind the war and its devastating impact on the country and its population.
The fundraising event will include a presentation by Waad followed by a Q&A session.
All of the tickets’ proceeds will be donated to provide health care in Sudan.
Book a space and join us on the 18th June to learn more about the situation in Sudan and help the cause.
