FOR POST 16 ONLY
Working to a brief to design a fully sustainable sports arena and village, students take part in a carousel of hands-on workshops to understand the role each engineering discipline plays in the project.
Civil and Construction
Using Tinkercad, students can build a simple 3D model of a stadium structure, including basic beams, columns, and roofs. Through this we can familiarise students with basic construction components such as trusses and beams while allowing them to see how different structures can support a stadium.
Building Services Engineering
Using TecQuipment's bench-top heat exchangers, students will run a head-to-head test between a Shell and Tube heat exchanger and a Plate heat exchanger. Students will control water flow, collect live temperature data, and calculate energy efficiency to determine which system is best for reducing the stadium's carbon footprint. This hands-on activity shows how Chemical Engineers manage energy flows and resource efficiency in large-scale projects.
Energy, Electrical & Electronics
Students will undertake a variety of tasks to understand and apply solar panel & wind turbine technologies (renewable energy generation).
