Teesside to host free lecture by Mrs Doubtfire creator

Award winning writer Anne Fine will talk about her literary work in a free lecture at the University.

Anne's 1987 novel Madame Doubtfire was adapted for the big screen as Mrs Doubtfire starring Robin Williams and her book Goggle-Eyes was adapted for BBC Children's television. Her work has been translated into thirty languages.

The lecture Writing for Adults and Children can be heard from 6.30pm to 7.45pm on Wednesday 12 November in the University's Centuria Building, Victoria Road, Middlesbrough. Refreshments are available from 6.00pm.

There will be an opportunity for audience questions following the lecture.

Honorary degree from Teesside Anne, who was Children's Laureate from 2001 to 2003, was awarded an honorary degree from the University of Teesside in 2007.

She has held the Carnegie Medal and the Publishing News Children's Author of the Year and received the Whitbread Award in 1993 and 1997. Anne was awarded an OBE for services to literature in 2003.

During her lecture Anne will talk about the different ways of writing for adults and children as two very separate audiences.

The free event launches the University's 2008-09 Honorary and Professorial Public Lecture Series. It is open to the public, but places must be booked by contacting the University's Alumni Office on 01642 384255 or email alumni.office@tees.ac.uk.
