Graduation celebration

17 November 2008

This week nearly 3,000 former students celebrate their graduations from the University in ten ceremonies at Middlesbrough Town Hall.

They will receive a range of awards, including diplomas, first degrees, master’s and doctorates.

The graduates, accompanied by over 6,000 guests, as family and friends join in the celebrations, receive their awards from the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Graham Henderson.

For the first time, each graduation ceremony will be shown on the big screen on Middlesbrough’s Central Square off Albert Road, for all of the public to view.

Professor Henderson said: ‘The University’s graduation ceremonies are a hugely enjoyable event for all of our graduates, their guests and the University community. They are recognition not only of the graduates’ hard work and achievements, but also of the fantastic support they’ve received from their friends, partners and families. So I’m particularly delighted that we can share these celebrations with the people of Middlesbrough for the first time.”

The ceremonies begin at 10.00am with the traditional academic procession, from the University’s Centuria Building off Victoria Road, through the University’s entrance off Borough Road, and finally along Albert Road to Middlesbrough Town Hall.
