Top award for Teesside volunteer

09 December 2009

A dedicated student has been recognised for the countless hours she spends volunteering for Sports Universities North East England (SUNEE).

Rachael Watson, BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise (Applied Sport Science), won the prestigious SUNEE Student Volunteer of the Year Award at a special ceremony held in the Hub, in the Students’ Union.

She was handed her prize by Garry Toulouse, Director of Student Services at Teesside.

SUNEE is a partnership between the five North East universities and aims to transform the delivery of sport and physical activity across the region.

The awards ceremony was attended by more than 100 student volunteers, as well as professional athletes and coaches.

Vickie Todd, SUNEE Development Officer at Teesside, said : ‘SUNEE is the next step on the volunteer pathway from the Step into Sport Programme. With SUNEE in place, students can continue their volunteering in a supported and structured way.'

'It is a way that is very direct to their career ambitions, ensuring that they maximise their volunteering for their own personal development and helping them achieve their dream career.’
