University’s curtain up for comedy opera

02 February 2010

Sicily born actor and director Antonio Venturino is coming to Teesside University for a special event.

He will present comedy opera Tonight we improvise: Questa Sera Si Recita A Sogge from 6.30pm to 8.00pm on Wednesday 10 February in the University’s Main Hall, Brittan Building for Sport and Well-being.

One-man show Questa Sera Si Recita A Sogge is based on Romeo and Juliet. It is acted partly in Italian and partly in English. The show is being presented as part of the University’s Culture on Campus programme.

The show begins with Antonio alone on stage, before he is gradually joined by other characters. As the show gathers pace, he invites people from the audience to get involved too.

Antonio has worked all over Italy performing in a huge range of shows and toured throughout England. He collaborated with Dario Fo to produce a version of one-man show Mistero Buffo in Sicilian dialect, which to date he has performed over 800 times with outstanding reviews and awards.

Tickets for Tonight we improvise: Questa Sera Si Recita A Sogge are £5, £4 concessions and free for under-18s and students. There will be a reception in the foyer of the Brittan Building for Sport & Well-being from 6.00pm.
