New education partner for Teesside University

10 April 2015

Teesside University has joined forces with University Campus Oldham (UCO) to improve the Higher Education offer in Oldham and Greater Manchester.

UCO is celebrating its tenth anniversary by offering new bespoke courses validated by Teesside University, significantly expanding on the Higher Education offer in Oldham.

Starting this September, this exciting new collaboration will establish a portfolio of unique courses that have been specially created for UCO in consultation with employers.

Like UCO, Teesside University work creatively with employers to tackle real world challenges, demonstrating commitment to ensuring students gain the knowledge and expertise they need to get into and progress in their chosen profession.

The partnership provides a strong platform through which both institutions can seek to widen participation in higher education in Oldham and support students to progress and achieve their full potential.

Debbie Bridge, Assistant Principal, said: 'We wanted to create tailored courses that helped to bridge the gap between employment and the qualifications achieved by students at schools and colleges in Oldham and across Greater Manchester.

'Widely recognised as an enabling and partnership-focused institution with a business solutions approach, Teesside University were the perfect partners for us. As part of UCOs tenth anniversary celebrations, they have enabled us to develop a suite of new courses reflecting our ethos of preparing students for the real world.'

Dr Aulay Mackenzie, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Partnerships), said: 'I am delighted to welcome University Campus Oldham as a new partner of Teesside University. UCO is an institution that shares our values, delivering a high quality student experience with a record of excellent graduate employability outcomes. I am sure this is a partnership that will flourish.'

The new courses include a wide range of two year vocational Foundation Degrees. Once completed, students have a choice whether to go directly into employment or continue their studies with a top up Degree which is usually another year. The eight Foundation Degree courses and BA (Hons) in Performance will be validated by Teesside University whilst the HNC in Construction will be validated by Pearson. Subject to approval, the ten new courses now on offer at UCO are:

• FdA Business Management • FdA Children and Young People • FdA in Creative Media Production • FdA in Financial and Professional Services • FdA Graphic Design • FdA performance • FdSc Heath and Social Care • FdSc in Sport and Exercise • BA (Hons) Performance (Top Up) • HNC Construction

University Campus Oldham is a modern university community in the heart of the town, delivering industry-focused higher education with academic rigour.
