Green Libraries Week, 2 - 8 October

28 September 2023

Go green at the Library! 2 - 8 October is National Libraries Week and this year it becomes Green Libraries Week.

During the week we have a number of events for both students and staff and there will be some online resources and sessions too.

Central to the week is the signing of the Green Libraries Manifesto, which demonstrates our Library’s commitment to sustainability and promotion of the green agenda.

During the week we will have our new Conversation chair situated in the Library, with conversation starters to aid discussion. The aim of this is to get people talking and striking up conversations with new people.

Tuesday 3 October, 11am - 2pm, SLB: Environment, poverty & hunger volunteering fair.

There will be stalls promoting green volunteering opportunities. These opportunities are an excellent way for students to boost their CV, connect with nature and make a real difference. This event is being run by Voluntees.

Alongside the volunteering opportunities we have environmental organisations with information on how their services can help students and staff make positive environmental choices. For example, Sustrans will be available to provide information about local walking and cycling routes and they can also help you plan a cycle or walking route to work.

We’ll also ask students to add their green pledges and ideas on one of our trees that will be in SLB during the day.

Tuesday 3 October, 5:15pm, Teams: Book Group

The Book Group will be discussing Naomi Klein’s ‘Why Black Lives Matter should transform the climate debate’, one of the shorter reads from Friends of the Earth’s race & climate reading list.

We’ll invite people to post their thoughts on the Book Group Teams site, or join in the live discussion at 5.15pm.

As well as these events, all week there will be a book display of our wonderful selection of books both fiction and non-fiction. There are also reading lists and other informaiton available on our Green Libraries Week Libguide.

We’ll post updates on our social media channels. Please follow Student & Library Services on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook @Teesstudentlife.
