Prestigious international accolade for university leader

Teesside University’s Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive, Professor Paul Croney OBE, has received a prestigious international award for his work to spearhead a successful global partnership.

Professor Croney OBE was given the MDIS Eminent Leader Award by the Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS).

His award was conferred by Kara Owen CMG, British Higher Commissioner to Singapore, and Dr Eric Kuan, MDIS President, at a recent MDIS graduation ceremony in Singapore.

It was in recognition of Professor Croney’s crucial role in strengthening MDIS’ partnership with Teesside University and in steering MDIS’ growth in Singapore and Tashkent.

MDIS offers transnational education opportunities to students in southeast Asia. It has been working closely with Teesside University since 2015 and the two organisations have developed a successful strategic partnership, offering provision across a range of disciplines, including health, business, computing and media.

Professor Croney OBE said: “I am extremely proud to receive this award on behalf of Teesside University and the wider international team.

We value all of our partners around the world which are vital to our future and to inspiring the next generation of talent.

“I have always admired the commitment shown by MDIS to expand educational opportunities within Singapore, and globally, and I am delighted to contribute to the institution’s ongoing success.
