Marc gets groovy at Teesside

26 November 2001

Advanced computer skills, a passion for music and a know-how of obtaining rare tracks; University of Teesside graduate Marc Ahmed has combined all of these to set up his own on-line business, Deep Grooves.

Marc, 24, from Middlesbrough, first enrolled at the University on an HND course in Computing and this year has achieved a BSc (Hons) Informatics degree. He based his final year project on his future specialist business, which focuses on underground house music.

He said: “After completing the course, I decided to combine my computer skills, love of music and my final year project to set up an internet-based house music store. I wanted to create a record shop using today’s modern technology with the knowledge gained throughout my years at Teesside. My final year project was a ‘mock-up’ of what would become Deep Grooves and I was confident that I was able to design a professional web page and set up the database I’d need to keep track of both my record stock and customers.

“I’ve been running Deep Grooves since August and it’s going really well. I get regular orders from around the world, especially the US, and the site is fast-becoming a recognised source of information about the UK house music scene.”

Deep Grooves carries an extensive stock of some of the newest underground tracks and can order records as requested. The web site also features information about leading club nights. The address is: www.deepgrooves.co.uk.
