Open to all creative freelancers free of charge, the CFC is a chance to find out about funding, explore the possibilities of collaborative working and learn more about creative projects being developed in the region. The Club will give freelancers the chance to meet, discuss experiences and build contacts. It features talks by experts in a variety of fields and previous presenters have included professional actors and founders of co-operatives. The club will respond to the issues raised.
The next speaker will be Steve Thompson from the University’s Community Informatics Research Applications unit (CIRA) who will demonstrate the CFC website, www.itsagas.org.uk and explain how to use the site notice board, called The Gas Board, where creatives are invited to post information about projects, and adverts for work. The site has been registered and the CFC members will be deciding what to include on it shortly. Abdul Khan, manager of the Middlesbrough’s Community and Cultural Fund will also talk about funding for projects which benefit the local community and develop cultural activity.
Carol Cooke, Culture & Creative Industries Development Manager, said: “The Club has proved popular with freelancers as they find it a great way to meet people in connected businesses. Freelance work can be very solitary, with freelancers perhaps only liaising with their clients during their working day. At the Creative Freelancers’ Club, they can meet other people in similar situations who are dealing with the same issues, and possibly pick up some work along the way. I would really recommend it to any creative freelancer, it’s free, so what have you got to lose?”
