Clearing advice is only a phone call away

30 August 2002

Hundreds of students are expected to ring the University of Teesside's help lines after receiving their A' level results on Thursday 15 August to make sure of their place at university. Known as 'Clearing and Confirmation' and lasting right up until mid-September, the aim is to match potential students with courses that still have vacancies.

In the past, it was mainly used by students who missed the A' level grades required for their first and second choice of courses and needed to re-think their options. Now, it is increasingly popular with people making late applications to university.

The help line swings into action from Thursday 15 August. The numbers to ring are:

General Enquiries - 01642 218121
Art & Design - 01642 384019
Business, Leisure, Public Relations, Marketing - 01642 342807
Computing, Animation, Games Design - 01642 342639
Health & Mental Health Nursing - 01642 384110
English, History, Media Studies, Media Production - 01642 384019
Social Sciences, Psychology, Sport, Law - 01642 342308
Science, Engineering, Forensic Investigation - 01642 342499

On Thursday 15 and Friday 16 August telephone lines will be open until 8pm. On Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 August telephone lines will be open from 10am until 4pm. On Monday 19 August lines will remain open until 8pm. From Tuesday 20 August-Friday 23 August the lines will be available until 6pm. Information on course vacancies is also available on the University of Teesside's web site at www.tees.ac.uk

Juliet Walters, Head of the Academic Registry at the University of Teesside, said: "Places are still available, but maybe not on the most popular courses such as Nursing. The key thing to do is give us a ring and find out what is available. At Teesside, we have introduced a number of new courses that were not listed in the 2002 prospectus and students could strike lucky and get a place on the first year of these exciting new programmes of study."

New courses this year from Teesside include degrees in Advertising, Disaster Management, E-Marketing, European Commercial Law, International Emergency Relief Engineering, Internet and Microsystems Technology, Media and Music Technology and Sport and Exercise Psychology.
