Former Bishop of Durham looks at big business

22 November 2002

How much responsibility do big corporations and international organisations take for the social consequences of their actions? And why are they so concerned about this? These and many more questions will be explored in a free lecture at the University of Teesside on Wednesday 4 December, to be delivered by the former Bishop of Durham the Rt. Rev David Jenkins.

Entitled ‘Corporate Social Responsibility’, the lecture will start at 6.30pm in the Europa Building, Woodlands Road, Middlesbrough. Refreshments are available from 6pm. The Rt. Rev Jenkins will take questions from the audience following his lecture.

The lecture is the third in an Honorary and Professorial Public Lecture series that celebrate Teesside’s ten years of University status. Guest speakers include Honorary Graduates of the University and Visiting Professors. The Rt. Rev David Jenkins received an Honorary Doctor of Literature from the University in 1993.

The Rt. Rev was Bishop of Durham from 1984 to 1994. He has published a number of works on Christian belief, often inviting controversial discussion, including Guide to the Debate about God (1966), The Contradiction of Christianity (1976) and Free to Believe (1991).
