Nancy Cartwright, the voice behind one of the world's famous cartoon characters, Bart Simpson, has been confirmed as the top bill speaker at Animex, the international animation festival organised by the University of Teesside and Middlesbrough Council.

Infamous throughout the world, juvenile delinquent Bart Simpson, star of the hugely popular The Simpsons, has been a household name since the famous family launched their own show in 1990, following a successful run of short features on The Tracy Ullman Show.

Nancy will be speaking at Animex Talk!, the industry conference hosted by the University of Teesside. She will deliver a talk called 'Will the real Bart Simpson please stand up' on Thursday 30th January 2003 at 4pm.

Chris Williams, Principal Lecturer in Animation at the University of Teesside, said: "Getting Nancy Cartwright to speak at Animex is a real coup for us. As the voice of one of the most famous animated characters of all time, Nancy can offer unique insights into an actor's relationship with the cartoon characters they are helping to portray. I'm sure that her talk will be incredibly enjoyable and will appeal to people of all ages, although I can't promise she'll do the entire talk as Bart!"

Animex, now in its fourth year, runs from Tuesday 28 - Friday 31 January 2003 and is organised by the University of Teesside and Middlesbrough Council. It begins with two days packed full of events in and around Middlesbrough, followed by Animex Talk!, a two-day conference at the University of Teesside featuring top names from the industry (see enclosed programme) and special screenings.
