Meteor Boards the Mystery Machine

22 January 2003

Scooby Doo where are you? This cry will be heard at the University of Teesside during the fifth series of Meteor taster sessions, from Monday 27 January – Friday 31 January. Over 450 pupils from 11 Middlesbrough primary schools, aged 10-11 will arrive at the University for a series of half-day taster activities, including art, science and computing, to give them a taste of university life.

It won’t be all work and no play for the pupils, as they will round off the activities with a disco in the Students’ Union. The pupils will be greeted by the University’s Schools & Colleges Liaison team, who are dressing as Scooby Doo characters to introduce the activities.

Wendy Bell, Schools Liaison Officer (Primary Schools), said: “We decided on the Scooby Doo theme as we hope the pupils will help us solve mysteries and carry out some detective work during the introduction. The Meteor team are looking forward to the taster week, as now we are in our fifth year, we are welcoming brothers and sisters of existing Meteor pupils on to the programme.” Pupils from the following Middlesbrough primary schools will take part in this year’s taster sessions: Brambles, St. Alphonsus RC, Newport, North Ormesby, Caldicotes, Abingdon, Breckon Hill, St. Joseph’s RC, Sacred Heart RC, Ayresome and Thorntree. There will be no opportunities to photograph / interview the Meteor team or children on the mornings of Tuesday 28 January and Friday 31 January.
