Free health lecture at the University of Teesside

27 January 2003

The University of Teesside is hosting a free, public lecture by Visiting Professor Rajan Madhok on Wednesday 12 February 2003, 6.30pm - 7.30pm (refreshments available from 6pm). Entitled From hips to Handles: the quest for better orthopaedic care, the lecture will take place at OL1 in the University of Teesside’s Europa Building, Woodlands Road, Middlesbrough

Professor Madhok is the Medical Director and Director of Public Health for North and North East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire Health Authority. This lecture will examine in detail the challenges of improving orthopaedic care.

Professor Madhok said: “Bone and joint problems affect a large number of people and the conditions can be quite disabling. There are many ways to help these people who require orthopaedic care. As a society we are struggling to make sure that everyone, who requires it, receives good quality care in a timely manner.

“From Hips to Handles is about the work being done in partnership with the local NHS and the University of Teesside in order to provide better orthopaedic care. This work will not only benefit local people but also patients elsewhere in the country through good quality research and teaching.”

The lecture, part of the University’s Tenth Anniversary Lecture Series, is open to all members of the public and should be of particular interest to people working in the health services.
