Transatlantic lecture screened at Teesside

Internationally renowned academic Professor Edward Said is to deliver a topical lecture entitled ‘Palestine, Israel and the Iraq War’ via video conferencing, at the University of Teesside on Friday 14 February at 7.30pm. The free lecture is open to the public and will be screened at the Large Lecture Theatre, Centuria Building, Victoria Road, Middlesbrough.

Professor Said is a stern critic of American Middle East policy. His lecture will take place at the University of Columbia in New York and transmitted via the University of Edinburgh to Teesside and several other UK educational institutions. Professor Said’s talk will start at 8pm and finish at 9pm, with an opportunity for interactive questions from the audience.

The event is hosted by the University’s Modern Studies : History Research Group Group of the School of Arts & Media. Peter Smith, former Principal Lecturer in Politics at the University will introduce the lecture. He said: “Edward Said is a Palestinian-American scholar of immense distinction. This event is perfectly timed to coincide with world-wide demonstrations against war with Iraq.”
