NHS Chief to launch new University Scheme

11 February 2003

The University of Teesside’s School of Health & Social Care will launch its new Excellence in Practice Accreditation Scheme on Friday 14 February at 11am. This Scheme will allow hospital wards, NHS departments and health & social care organisations to benchmark their performance against nationally identified indicators. The Scheme will be launched by Nigel Crisp, Chief Executive, Department of Health & Social Care & NHS at the Centuria Building, Victoria Road, Middlesbrough.

The Scheme brings together benchmark statements and standards from various organisations into one package. Many organisations, such as Stockton Hall, a private mental health facility, the Cardiothoracic Catheter Laboratory at James Cook University Hospital and the Macmillan Services at the University Hospital of North Tees, have already commissioned the School to implement this process, which can be undertaken on an individual, group or organisation basis.

The Scheme promotes continuous quality improvement, leadership, staff development, peer review and more effective working methods. All of these contribute towards the NHS modernisation agenda.
